Flying carpets and James Bond

After a slow start because of the heat we drove to the monestaries of Meteora. We enjoyed the views and decided to visit the monestary that featured in the James Bond movie, For Your Eyes Only. For te movie fans amongst us, its one of the last scenes where James Bond meets the bad guys, in this case the Russians. We believe a detonator was thrown of the rocks. Please let us know if we are wrong…..

The great thing about the monestaries is that in the ancient days, they were only accessible by ladders or ropes. Nowadays there are two ways to get there. For visitors there are narrow pathways cut out of the rocks. An excellent way of getting a feel of the site and the heat! And, more convienently for the monks, there is a cable car. Like Alladin they fly on a magic carpet over the gorge to the mainland. Everybody who has ever visited the amusement park Efteling in the Netherland should remind this of the rickety magic carpet in the fairytale forest.

Once thing is certain, this place is gorgeous!!
