Oldtimer Love & Italia

A Volkswagen oldtimer, as we drive in, requires quite a bit of love. More then just an average car, it requires oil, regular engine checks and has a speed limit in between 80 and 90 kilometres an hour. Every 5000 km it requires an engine check and a change of oil.

As we were heading to Italie and did not know how many VW garages there would be, let alone VW oldtimers, we decided to have the engine checked in Menton. A guy named youyou (prenounce joejoe) seemed to have a specialized VW bug garage. We called him and arranged a meeting in the afternoon. As soon as we got there, he and a friend dug underneath the car and had the oil changed in no-time. Something we could have done ourselves but the problem lied in where to leave the waste oil. After finishing with the oil, they checked the valves and (for vw fans) only the nr 1 valve needed some adjustment. Then they checked the engine with a stroboscope and adjusted the setting slightly. Ready for another 5000 kilometres! We gave youyou a miniature Volkswagen and in exchange we received two t-shirts of the cote d’azur VW club! Happy as we were we headed to the border only 2 km away from the center of Menton. There we decided to take some pictures in front of the border sign for on the homepage. A local border patrolman even offered to film us which turned into a hilarious bit of film. Laughing our buts off we crossed the border into the land of Pizza, corruption and hopefully lots of adventures!
