Into the himalayas

We were looking forward to driving in the himalaya’s. The magnificent Karakoram highway will lead us to China, our final destination… the last of the ten countries of this this expeditions. The last few days had been hectic. The feeling of insecurity has left its mark on us and we are grumpy. Very much grumpy for the first time of this journey. We can’t seem to communicate and don’t understand each other at all. Fortunately we can laugh about it in the end.

Within no-time after leaving Islamabad we are heading into the hills. Hills become mountains as high as the Alps. The roads are perfect and so are the views. Sometimes there are very steep bits but hippie takes it as it comes and when going down we use the low gears to brake and to avoid overheating of the breaks. We drive through little villages and take it easy. Every now and then we stop to enjoy the nature and to do a bit of filming. We make it as far as Abbottabad… so not really far into the Himalayas and settle for the night.

People ask us how we are doing or better say coping being on the roads for months and ask us if we don’t miss holland. We are doing perfect and as every day is an adventure there is little time left to miss holland. Okay we miss our friends and family every now and then, especially when situations go bad as in Islamabad. We enjoy the days as they come and we hope you enjoy our stories as much as we do writing them!
