The neighbour and the gorges du verdon

Is anyone awake yet?

Mmmhhh

Is anyone awake yet,

I open my eyes and see the curtains move…. Elles wakes up as well and together we look at the curtain. Suddenly a piece of French bread appears. We open the curtain and see our friendly neighbour smiling.

The evening before we had arrived on the camping municipal near the gorges du verdon. Our neighbour had told us that sometimes a man comes to collect the money but most of the times not at all. The campsite was perfect with a view on the gorges, all the facilities and a friendly neighbour. We told him of his plans and after showing our bus he asked if he could ask some questions later on.

I’d thought you might be hungry.. so I bought you some bread he said with a smile. If you’re up for it, visit us when you are ready and we will make you some coffee. Now this is what this journey makes it all worthwhile. We enjoyed the french bread and decided to see if the coffee was ready. It appeared that the man had found the campsite a year earlier and had decided to bring his wife this year. ‘he is been dying to ask you a lot of questions all morning’ she said with a smile. While enjoying the coffee we answered all his questions and chatted for more then an hour. We even got a money belt when we left! We said goodbye and thanked them for their hospitality.

We headed towards the gorges du verdon, also known as the grand canyon of Europe. With steer cliffs of over 900 metres an amazing sight. We drove into the gorges and decided to park the car and follow a path towards the base of the gorge. Wouw is the best word to describe it all. High cliffs, a wild river, beautiful viewing point and a couple of caves. This is one of those ‘ must visit’ places. Fantastic!

In the eve we drove a campsite near the river. I worked a bit on the car and Elles enjoyed the nice weather
